How-to guide
How to make a mind map
A mind map is a simple way to organize your thoughts visually. Instead of writing in lines, you start from a central idea and expand outward.
But the real value is not structure - it's how it helps you think.
Step 1: Start with a central idea
Begin with a single idea in the center. It can be a word, a phrase, or even a question.
Step 2: Add branches
From the center, draw branches for related ideas. Each branch represents a direction your thinking can go.
Step 3: Expand naturally
Let ideas grow freely. You do not need to organize everything immediately. Follow your thoughts as they come.
Step 4: Keep it visual
Use short phrases instead of long sentences. Think in connections, not paragraphs.
Step 5: Refine later
Once your ideas are on the map, you can step back and organize them. Group, adjust, and clarify where needed.
Why handwritten-style maps work better
Traditional tools often push you into rigid structures too early. But thinking is rarely linear.
Handwritten-style maps allow ideas to flow more naturally:
- less pressure to be perfect
- more freedom to explore
- more intuitive structure
Bridge to Mapul
Mapul is designed to support this natural process. You can create maps that feel like drawing - not formatting.
